Which motor do I have?

Question

Sorry it’s a 2004 not 2006

I have a 2004 6 axle Mack that I inherited and I bought a new motor for it. The old motor both heads covers were stolenn off so I don’t know what hp or serial number on it. I hired a company that has since shut down by the IRS to replace the motor. Before hand they bought a new motor. Now I’m having issues with other mechanics saying it’s not the same motor and that water pump location are different. I contacted the companyc CA trucks that sold the motor and they say it will work. Other mechanics say it will but will be to much money to customized it. I was under the assumption it would be a drop in motor. Can anyone help me and tell me what motor I have in it just from the pictures? I know it’s crappy photos but it’s all I have. One from before they pulled it and several as it sits now. Is it worth it to continue to even pursue it or just sell everything? I’ve been trying for almost 9 months to find someone who will agree to work on the truck. Most deny bc they don’t like working behind another mechanic when the old motor was pulled. Some pics of old motor and new one are posted

The old one is an E-tech. The new one is an ASET-IEGR i dont see the external EGR parts. The new one is a 2004-2006. The truck looks to be a CHN or CXN -613.

It was hard to see the oil cooler in the picture, and the centrimax is later then an E-Tech.. i missed that

I'd be talking to a dealer, maybe @The Heinz could run the vin and work out what motor the truck came with.

Dunno but wouldn't have thought an Etech would be in an 2006 model over there.

Either way it should fit, just need to find the bolt on bits and pieces, should be plenty around at wrecking yards to piece it together

2006 is going to be an ASET AC-xxx (xxx is horsepower rating) with an external EGR.  The AC motor was used on highway chassis, basically everything other than the Granite, RD, and the trash trucks.  Those got the AI-xxx motors, which used an extra bump on the exhaust loves of the camshaft as a rudimentary EGR.

The EECU, the engine mounted computer, on the AC uses 4 electrical plugs I believe, whereas the AI and ETECH use 3 plugs.  ETECH left in around 2002 and the ASET engines started in 2003.  I wouldn't junk the truck, but I'd look for an AC motor to drop in.

Alternatively, if you have a manual transmission you could try and find a donor Granite or trash truck and swap in all the electronics, wiring, etc to convert the truck to an AI configuration, which is much more user friendly.

The truck a CV713 or a CXN/CHN?  Looks to be CV700 series by the steering gear box.  If it in fact a 2006 CV 7XX  series truck then it should have a ASET AI engine. By the looks of it , it has a ETECH /CCRS  engine installed which is the wrong engine for this truck to begin with. The engine you bought is a ASET AC engine which in not correct  for a 2006 CV 713.  The ASET AC engine is for 2003.5 to 2007 CH/CX and CXN/CHN  trucks. The ASET AI engine is for 2003.5 -2007 CV, MR and LE trucks. The AC engine has a VGT turbo , external EGR cooler and engine ECM has 3 plugs. The AI engine is more like the ETECH engine with a 2plug engine ECM.

My dumb ass didnt even think to look at your profile to see that you have a Granite... Is the truck saveable? I think you posted something on this last year, ?

I believe so if I can find the right motor or someone to put this one in

I could definitely see what engine the truck had in it originally, though if Joey's right about it being a CX or CH, it would have originally had an ASET AC being a 2006 highway model.

Here’s the vin

So if it’s not an etech it means it’s aset? Sorry I’m new to these motors

If I didnt miss anything, the new engine is correct for the Granite.. 👍

The water pumps are in different location from the mechanic said. It’s been an unbelievable hard 9 months trying to find a mechanic to put this in. Most deny it bc the old motor isn’t and they don’t want to work behind someone. I’m willing to toe this thing anywhere to get done at this point

Do you have the ASET engine fan and mount ?

I have the old fan that came off the old motor. But not for the new one. The new motor I have is aset correct? Is my old motor an ASET also? What would make them different water pump locations?

I had to read this twice . And correct my correction of myself.  Old engine is either E-Tech or CCRS.  new engine is ASET-I. If the truck is an 04 then the new engine is what it was born with.  The fan arrangement is no big deal. The mount you need can be set to the correct height for the fan shroud.

I don’t know if the motor was ever changed before. It is an 2004 so what your saying is the new motor is what it has from the factory and at some point somebody swapped motors? What is major diff between wan aset and etach? Are the plugs and harness or ecu interchangeable

Youll likely need the ECM and Harness for the new engine. I am not very smart about different programs, since being away from them for a long time
