Which motor do I have?

Question

Sorry it’s a 2004 not 2006

I have a 2004 6 axle Mack that I inherited and I bought a new motor for it. The old motor both heads covers were stolenn off so I don’t know what hp or serial number on it. I hired a company that has since shut down by the IRS to replace the motor. Before hand they bought a new motor. Now I’m having issues with other mechanics saying it’s not the same motor and that water pump location are different. I contacted the companyc CA trucks that sold the motor and they say it will work. Other mechanics say it will but will be to much money to customized it. I was under the assumption it would be a drop in motor. Can anyone help me and tell me what motor I have in it just from the pictures? I know it’s crappy photos but it’s all I have. One from before they pulled it and several as it sits now. Is it worth it to continue to even pursue it or just sell everything? I’ve been trying for almost 9 months to find someone who will agree to work on the truck. Most deny bc they don’t like working behind another mechanic when the old motor was pulled. Some pics of old motor and new one are posted

I had to read this twice . And correct my correction of myself.  Old engine is either E-Tech or CCRS.  new engine is ASET-I. If the truck is an 04 then the new engine is what it was born with.  The fan arrangement is no big deal. The mount you need can be set to the correct height for the fan shroud.

Guess I’m still a little confused about this statement . Your saying if it’s an 04, which it’s is,The newer motor is the aset, iand is what it was born with from factory. And my old motor is an etach motor. Are you saying that it was prolly changed before hand?

@The Heinz can you check this out when you get a couple minutes. Let's try and figure out what's supposed to be in there, then we can work out what can be done with what you have.

The AI engine is almost identical to ETECH engine.  Only differences are the AI has an extra bump on exhaust loves to crack exhaust valves open during intake, to suck partially burnt combustion gases back in,  AI has restrictive exhaust manifold and turbo to create back pressure to facilitate the above; the EUPs are definitely CCRS on the AI, whereas they aren't all CCRS on the ETECHs.  CCRS is Current Controlled Rate Shaping:  the EECU fires the EUP in 2 phases to better control fuel burn.  Pre-CCRS engines the EECU sends signal and fires the fuel into the cylinder in a single burst, rather than phasing it in.  Minor fuel return differences from the heads, heads are not interchangeable between CCRS and Pre-CCRS without fuel return modification.

Great news is you are dealing with the AI family of engines which is much better than the AC.  You can delete the emissions EGR by putting an exhaust manifold and turbo on from a pre AI engine, and if you ever need to replace the camshaft you can put in a pre AI cam as well, though you need to research your cams first because there are differences in cam gear keyway positioning.

If you were close to me in Southeastern PA I'd consider taking this project on.

It has the Allison trans in it. And how far is that from DC. At his point I’m not oppose to anything to just get his done done honestly.

Just a quick thought....What is on the back of the truck? Any type of specialized body? depending on build date, a 2004 Granite is nearly 26 years old at this point. If its just a chassis then good/decent, inspected, and running examples are a dime a dozen at this point. Is this job even worth the money and effort? Obviously you already own a "new" engine so my question my be moot if you can't return it for a refund. Not being disrespectful but just looking at the big picture.

Truck is an '04 Granite with an AI-350 ASET from the factory. Sorry for the long wait, I was out of work thanks to the snow and didn't think to check the forums.
