I have my eye on a 2001 Vision with a 460 and 13 speed Eaton. Under 440k original miles, and appears to be in immaculate condition. More like the life of a show truck than work horse. Do these have a solid reputation for reliability? I know the E7 Etech isn’t a fan favorite, but it must be better than the modern emissions trucks. What should I be looking for specific to a Mack? I’d be using it to do regional flatbed work, rarely over 80k lbs in the Rockies.
My second current option is get a 2016-2018 Pinnacle with an MP8 and keep a set of injector cups in the glove box. Also open to suggestions to other trucks so long as they have a full size sleeper and aren’t priced like a Peterbilt.

How is it getting parts for the old Macks? Does Mack still have support for the stuff made before their merger with Volvo?

Even though Volvo owns Mack, Mack has a LOT more support for their older trucks than Volvo. Early 2000's Volvos are getting the axe already, don't ask me to get a power steering pump for one! I've been having a lot of success getting parts for these slightly older Mack's, and if the parts are unavailable, PAI usually has it. As much as I hate modern Mack, they are trying to keep the older ones alive it seems.

I don’t know what it’s worth. I see it was sold at a Ritchie auction back in March to the current dealer for $9500. Before that it looks like it spent life towing a race car operation from New York. They’re asking $27,000 which seems high for having no service history.

I have paid extra, because it was clean enough and solid.  So im like you Bob.  Just hope he drove it and climbed under and around it... The Vision is a sweet highway truck.

As far as driveline condition.. I expect the tranny to be an FRO15-or-16 210C, Eaton DS 404/405 rears..  from what I have seen in the shops, that setup is excellent. I will say that the transmission is one that I have done dozens of synchronizer replacements.  It is an in-chassis repair, and a lot cheaper then a Mack synchro job...  I can still do one in a day if i have the parts... The rears will start a small leak at the bottom of the seam between the gear set (pumpkin) and the housing.  A little dampness is common. Re-torque the bolts and roll on... The air ride suspension is also good.

I didnt ask you if you will be doing the maintenance?
