Clutch swap

Evening all I’ve started on the clutch swap today. It’s all on bolted and ready for lifting out in the morning. I’ve managed to source an new old stock clutch over here in the uk so I’m off too fetch that tomorrow afternoon and hopefully have her back up and running over the weekend

You did well sir, looks like the clutch springs were grinding the flywheel.  Good luck to you..

That, right there is why I hate "puck" clutches, everything is tore up. heat checks, and material lost from the flywheel.

Hard to tell from the pictures whether the flywheel can be brought back or not. If it can, it will be thinner and less able to take the heat from the next clutch.

With a truck that is geared right, and a good driver, there really is no need for those. I've had trucks that have gone years in city service with organic lining and never even need an adjustment. New driver and within a month I'm turning the ring in a couple of notches. Not sure how they are using up so much clutch lining with a truck that has the gearing to walk away at idle grossing 120,000 or more

It came out easier a lot easier than I thought. The flywheel is saveable and is been done as I we speak. Do any of u know the torque settings for the flywheel bolts and the clutch pressure plate please

Flywheel bolts are around 175 lbft.  I can check my book when i get home later

Note they must take off the same amount from the mounting flange as they take off of the surface To have the clutch operate properly! thread locker on the bolts 180 ftp pressure plate not sure  15-20  maybe ! 3/8 ratchet tight!

I pulled 170K through a 14" organic coupled to a engine that was was over 425hp and 1400 lb/ft torque. Never wore out an organic clutch, the closest I came was when the pressure plate failed, spilling all its fingers and springs into the bell housing.

Not a spicer but will do the job

Not sure it will, the Spicer and truck linkage is set up for an internal clutch adjustment. That mean the linkage doesn't change when the clutch is adjusted. That stamped steel cover, I see no internal adjustment, and may be designed for a clutch set up where the linkage gets adjusted. On those the clutch brake (if used) has to have a separate way to keep the clutch brake in adjustment.

Without adjustment internally the throw-out bearing keeps moving as the clutch wears. 
I could be wrong, but have always replaced cast cover with cast cover.

There’s a castle nut you adjust behind the bearing for the internal adjust of the clutch bud

Ok, then I was wrong. We don't use a lot of stamped steel covers here.

Yup it’s known as a lipe clutch  here should work

Yeah, I know about Lipe, but there are also other stamp steel covers that don't have an adjustment internally. I just want to make sure before he got it together. Not as common as the cast cover clutches.

I admit to being wrong, but better to make sure before it is all buttoned up.

Glad to see him go back with organic disks.

Ive seen those in Iveco trucks. I think Valeo was the brand name. I have only seen a few, and i do not have the spanner wrench in my tool box, which means I didnt see a lot of them.. 😉
