Hi there guys,

I'm not too sure if anyone else out there has had this problem before but we have a EA7 454 Enigne in our Mack and it keeps blowing the rubber valve cover gaskets which results in oil leaking out.

It always blows out in the covers where there are a couple of groove type slot things cut out from the actual cover, which looks like where little tabs on the gasket should go but there aint no tabs on the rubber gasket.

I have checked the mess breather on the valve cover and other basic tests but cant find anything. I have torqued the covers to what the manual recommends and also tried loosing the cover a tad so theres not so much pressure on the gaskets but the gaskets keep blowing out.

Am I doing something wrong? Any help would be much appreciated

Cheers

Matt

Welcome to the site!

Are you using the one peice gasket the old style gasket came with open ends the new style the ends are joined.

we used to put a slice of aluminim pop can in the corners to hold them in if using the old style.A 1/4 inch sliver of pop can an inch long usually did the trick.

But we have had no problems with the new style gasket.

Hey thanks. This place has been a big help s far when things happen with our mack.

We have been using the one piece joined gaskets but will definetly give your way a go.
