I work for WM and drive a 2001 Mack MR, and on the dash is a red and silver button that says override. What does this button override?

Probably overrides the auto shutdown. My CH has one anyway. After 5 min of idle time a buzzer sounds warning you the engine will shutdown unless the override button is pressed.

I think Yellow Freight has the same type setup on their trucks as aftermarket add on. I know the button is red, and says "override" also.

I've seen some Peterbilts that had an override toggle switch that you had to hold down when starting the engine, or it wouldn't start.

Is the length of time adjustable or is it 5 minutes on all trucks? My CH has the override button, but I've let it idle for more than 5 minutes on a few occassions and it hasn't shut down. Not a big deal as I bump the cruise to 1,000 RPM most of the time anyway. Must be disabled...?

Ever wonder how a blind person knows when to stop wiping?

Maybe its 10 minutes....not really sure because I always bump my idle up too. I wouldn't think its adjustable because I heard its a safety issue to prevent colder than normal cylinder temps that could allow unburned fuel passby the rings and into the crankcase.....not positive though.

I beleive this button enbles you to override a low oil or high temp auto shut down to get the truck off the road.
